St. John’s Medical Center Receives the 2018 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience

Updates

St. John’s Health has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience by the Women’s Choice Award®, a referral source for healthcare choices based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence. The award ranks St. John’s Health (SJMC) in the top 100 hospitals of similar size, based on number of beds.

St. John’s Health also made the list of:

  • America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics, based on the percentage of patients who would definitely recommend the hospital, the safety ranking, the low rate of early elective deliveries, and the best practices for breast feeding education and support.
  • America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics, based on high recommendations, a strong patient safety record, and unified services. This recognition places St. John’s in the top 11% of 3,230 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedic services.
  • America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care, based on performance measures reported by CMS that women indicated they value most. This award places St. John’s in the top 328 hospitals in the nation for emergency care.

“St. John’s has pledged to do our best to provide the highest possible quality care to the people in Teton County and the surrounding areas,” said St. John’s CEO Paul Beaupré, MD. “Being recognized by Women’s Choice for our obstetrical care, emergency room care, orthopedic care, and patient experience is a way that we validate that we are fulfilling this commitment. I am so proud of our staff and their commitment to excellence.”

The methodology used to select St. John’s as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience is unique in that it evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results, along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences.

The Women’s Choice Award collects data from HCAHPS survey measures and uses a weighted average to award the best hospitals for various services.

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, good patient experience positively correlates to disease management, adherence to treatment plans, and health outcomes.

“This hospital was awarded because it is one of the best at treating their patients the way their patients want to be treated,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Hospital choice is a critical decision, particularly for women, who influence over 90% of healthcare decisions. Our designation makes it easier for them to choose a hospital where they and their families are more likely to have a better experience and outcome.”
