Richard King IV grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, working summers as a roughneck on drilling rigs. He received a BBA in Petroleum Land Management from The University of Texas at Austin in 1983, and began his career as a petroleum landman with Texaco in South Dakota and Colorado. Richard is a serial entrepreneur. He has founded over a dozen operating companies in various industries and served on boards of numerous non-profits including the Texas Distance Learning Association, the Mind Science Foundation, and University of Texas McDonald Observatory. He is Managing Partner of Teton Equity Partners, a venture capital company, and Manager of R. King & Co. providing oil & gas management services in eight states to mineral owners. Richard has lived in the valley since 2006 and a member of the mentors program at Silicon Couloir, providing business advice to Jackson Hole startups and entrepreneurs. Better known as the husband of Tamara Ashburn—an expressionist painter and 4th generation Wyoming woman born and raised in Jackson Hole—he and Tamara live here full time.
Richard has served as a Director of St. John’s Health Foundation since January 2020.
