Val is a marketing and communications professional who specializes in strategy, copywriting, and graphic design. She holds a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Michigan. Personal circumstances curtailed her work toward an MBA, but her on-the-job experience in fast-paced high-tech companies over nearly 15 years more than made up for it. In 1993, Val created her own turnkey firm, Metafore Marketing Communications, attracting clients that ranged from computer hardware and software to medical device and information industries. Val continues artistic pursuits in photography, pottery, and various other media. Val sits on the board of and donates her professional services to Polar Bears International, a conservation group, and to Book Trust, a non-profit that funds the choice and ownership of books for children in poverty. She, her husband, Dick, and their beloved English Springer Spaniels became permanent residents of Jackson in 2003.
Val has been a Director of St. John’s Health Foundation since January 2015.
