The Hope and Joy Birthday Club!
Birthdays are special occasions to celebrate. For years Lou Wade made scrumptious chocolate cakes for her sons and subsequently, for her granddaughters, as well as many friends. It turned out she was making 9 cakes a year from scratch and sending them to family and friends by Fed Ex. Since she moved to Jackson she’s entertained friends with parties and flowers and dinners for their birthday. One day she decided to send them all the recipe, as she was recovering from surgery at St. John’s. She knew how much it means to be thought of on a birthday!
She wanted to her gratitude for all the she has received through St. John’s for surgeries, for chemo, for oncology, and most recent for knee replacement success.
She was trying to think of a way to honor a family member or friend on their birthday. At the same time she was also wondering about the best way to donate to St. John’s. It clicked to put the two together by honoring someone with a donation to the hospital on their birthday.
When Lou was going through chemo a few years back a friend gave her a puppy that she named HOPE. When she recovered a year later she got JOY.
They represent the HOPE for St. John’s and the JOY gifting will bring.
St. John’s Health Foundation has established the Birthday Club in honor of Lou Wade.
